Dani Ceballos and Real Madrid have decided to part ways after José Mourinho informed the midfielder that he is not part of his plans moving forward.

His departure comes weeks after reports of tensions at the club, with Softfootball previously reporting that Ceballos unfollowed former head coach Álvaro Arbeloa on Instagram following a reported disagreement in May 2026.

Reports suggest that after the confrontation, Ceballos addressed his teammates, stating: “I asked the coach not to have any further contact with him,” a comment that reportedly led to his exclusion from the Madrid squad.

The Spaniard is currently negotiating the termination of his contract in order to complete a free transfer to Real Betis, a move both player and club have reportedly wanted for several years.

Ceballos joined Real Madrid in 2017 as one of Spain’s brightest prospects and leaves after nine seasons, making 215 appearances and winning multiple major honours, including three UEFA Champions League titles, two La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, three Club World Cups, two UEFA Super Cups and three Spanish Super Cups.
