Cristian Romero has put his proposed move to Inter Milan on hold as he waits to see whether Barcelona make a concrete move later in the transfer window.
The Tottenham Hotspur defender is understood to be excited by the prospect of joining Barcelona, with his representatives believing the Catalan club could launch a serious approach before the window closes.
Softfootball understands that Inter Milan had previously opened direct talks with Romero’s camp as they stepped up efforts to sign the Argentina international.
Negotiations had progressed on both the club and player sides, although Inter were always aware that any deal would be difficult due to the significant financial package required to convince Tottenham to sell one of their key defenders.

Barcelona’s interest has now complicated the situation, with Romero choosing to wait before making a final decision on his future.
Inter remain interested, but the Serie A giants could now face stiff competition if Barcelona decide to formalise their pursuit in the coming weeks.
