Chukwuemeka Scores in 96th Minute as Dortmund Snatch 3-3 Draw at Frankfurt

Softfootball understands that Borussia Dortmund stretched their unbeaten run in the competition to eight matches, a frantic 96th-minute equaliser from Carney Chukwuemeka rescued a breathless 3–3 draw away to Eintracht Frankfurt on a night that never really settled down.

Dortmund arrived at this game with a lot of confidence following a recent 2-0 victory against Mönchengladbach and a 2-1 win against Bayern Leverkusen. After the game Dortmund shared a post of the result via their official X account.

Dortmund started brightly and looked keen to make an early statement. After ten minutes, neat build-up play shifted the ball out to Julian Ryerson on the right, and his low cross caused just enough chaos for Maximilian Beier to poke home at the near post. It was a tidy finish, and one that briefly silenced the home crowd.

Frankfurt, though, didn’t fold. Knowing their recent struggles against top-eight sides, they responded with purpose. Can Uzun and Ansgar Knauff both test Gregor Kobel, and the pressure eventually paid off.

Serhou Guirassy bundled into Robin Koch inside the box, leaving the referee with little choice. Uzun coolly dispatched the penalty, sending Kobel the wrong way for his first goal since September.

The rest of the half swung back Dortmund’s way. Julian Brandt went close twice, Nico Schlotterbeck forced a sharp save, and Kauã Santos was kept busy. Still, Dortmund couldn’t find a second before the break, Brandt ballooning a promising chance when it really mattered.

The second half followed a familiar Dortmund pattern. Frankfurt pushed, Dortmund wobbled. Knauff came close again, Kobel was worked, and the visitors were living a bit dangerously. Yet they struck first. Felix Nmecha fired from range, his effort taking a huge deflection off Hugo Larsson and looping beyond Santos to restore Dortmund’s lead.

It lasted all of three minutes. A simple through ball from Arnaud Kalimuendo split the defence, and Younes Ebnoutalib finished calmly past Kobel to make it 2–2. From there, it was chaos.

Later on, Schlotterbeck hit the bar, Fábio Silva missed the rebound, and then Mahmoud Dahoud looked to have won it for Frankfurt in stoppage time with a fierce strike through traffic.

But Dortmund had one more twist. In the 96th minute, Marcel Sabitzer’s hopeful cross found Chukwuemeka, who took it down and guided the ball past Santos. Final score, 3–3. A mad game, and one Dortmund somehow escaped with.
