Chelsea’s successful pursuit of Morgan Rogers was driven by a clear sporting vision, with the England international told he would arrive at Stamford Bridge as the club’s first-choice left winger.
While Rogers is equally effective as a No.10, Chelsea’s plan is for him to operate primarily from the left flank, forming part of Xabi Alonso’s new-look attack alongside close friend Cole Palmer.
Sources have confirmed to Softfootball that Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali played a pivotal role in securing the agreement, negotiating directly with Aston Villa co-owner Nassef Sawiris. Alonso was also heavily involved, personally outlining his tactical plans and convincing Rogers that Chelsea was the right destination.
The Blues accelerated negotiations to beat Arsenal to the signing, agreeing a £117 million deal—£1 million more than Manchester City’s move for Elliot Anderson—to ensure the transfer was completed before a rival bid could materialise.

Rogers made it clear that Chelsea was his preferred destination after speaking with Alonso, with the opportunity to play alongside Palmer also influencing his decision.
Arsenal have now shifted their focus to alternative attacking targets, with Julián Álvarez, Junior Kroupi and Bradley Barcola remaining among the names under consideration as Mikel Arteta continues his search for attacking reinforcements.
