Manchester City have now made an official club-to-club approach to Chelsea for Enzo Fernández, marking the first time Pep Guardiola’s side have formally contacted the Blues over the midfielder this summer.

Softfootball understands that negotiations are now ongoing between Manchester City and Chelsea, with Fernández waiting for a verdict on his future.

The Argentina international has already given the green light to a potential move to the Etihad and has reached a verbal agreement with City over personal terms.

The next step is now entirely dependent on the two clubs, with Chelsea set to determine the conditions and price required for Fernández to leave Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s preparations for a potential departure have already begun, with the club exploring midfield alternatives.

Softfootball previously reported that Chelsea had made contact with Manu Koné’s representatives, with the AS Roma midfielder being considered alongside Lamine Camara as one of the leading options for a late midfield move.

However, nothing is advanced with either player at this stage. Roma continue to insist they want to keep Koné and have yet to receive an official offer.

Koné’s availability will ultimately depend on Roma’s position, but Chelsea have opened the door to discussions as they prepare for all scenarios before the transfer window closes.

Chelsea have also held discussions with Monaco regarding Camara, who is understood to be open to joining the Blues.

With City now formally entering negotiations, Fernández’s future has reached a crucial stage.

Fernández is receptive to the possibility of reuniting with Enzo Maresca, who worked with him at Chelsea and would welcome the opportunity to coach him again.

Chelsea must decide whether to keep one of their key midfielders or accept Manchester City’s proposal, while City will now attempt to find an agreement that allows Fernández to make the move.

Deal on, negotiations underway.
