Chelsea have reportedly identified Álvaro Carreras as a potential solution to their left-back concerns following the departure of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid.

The Blues recently sanctioned Cucurella’s move to the Spanish giants in a deal worth €55 million plus a further €5 million in performance-related bonuses, leaving the club short of experienced options on the left side of defence. While highly-rated Jorrel Hato is expected to play a major role next season, Chelsea are believed to be exploring additional reinforcements.

According to reports reaching Softfootball, Carreras has emerged as a target due to his familiarity with incoming head coach Xabi Alonso. The Spanish defender joined Real Madrid from Benfica last summer and remains highly regarded despite increased competition for places following Cucurella’s arrival.

Real Madrid now boast multiple left-back options, including Fran García and Ferland Mendy, potentially opening the door for negotiations if the right offer arrives.

Carreras also possesses previous experience in English football, having spent time with Manchester United and a loan spell at Preston North End. Chelsea are now weighing up whether to make a formal approach as they reshape their squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
