Real Betis have been dealt a major blow ahead of the new season after their playmaker Isco sustained an injury in their recent pre season game against Malaga.
Softfootball understood that the former Real Madrid star played a major role in helping Real Betis finish the 2024/25 La Liga campaign in sixth place. The 33-year-old scored 12 goals and provided 11 assists in 33 games for the Los Verdiblancos last season.

Back in May 2024, Isco suffered a broken leg during a match against Las Palmas, and that ended his dream of featuring for Spain at Euro 2024. The injury was a bad one, and due to complications, two surgeries were needed before the problem was fixed.
As a result, the former Real Madrid midfielder was sidelined for an extended spell, only making his long awaited return to action in January 2025.
Now, according to Fabrizio Romano via his verified X handle, the Spaniard is expected to be out again for around three months because of the injury that could force Real Betis to shift their strategy in the summer transfer window and look for another midfielder.
His tweet reads:
“Isco, expected to be out for around three months with an injury suffered last night.
Real Betis strategy on the market can now change again”.
The loss of Isco is a big blow for Real Betis, especially now that the new 2025/26 season is mere a week away. Understandably, it could also force the club to reconsider their transfer plans, which until now have been focused on securing Manchester United winger Antony.
