Barcelona have suffered another setback after a Spanish court rejected the club’s appeal to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the second half of the 2024/25 La Liga season.
The Catalan giants are racing against time to resolve the issue before the players’ temporary registrations expire on December 31.
Softfootball understands the ruling means neither player is currently eligible to play from January 1 unless Barcelona succeeds with a fresh appeal.
According to The Athletic, Barcelona’s request for a precautionary registration measure was rejected by Commercial Court No. 10 in Barcelona.
La Liga had initially granted Olmo and Victor temporary registrations for the first half of the campaign while the club sought additional revenue to comply with the league’s financial regulations.
Barcelona have now lodged a new appeal with the Court of First Instance, with a hearing scheduled for December 30, just one day before the registration deadline.
In a statement following the verdict, La Liga said the decision reflected its financial control regulations.
The established budgetary balance rules implementing the powers conferred upon it by law must be applied in the same way to all clubs, thus avoiding any serious alteration to the equal conditions of the competition.
Barcelona recently announced a new sponsorship agreement with Nike, but it has not generated enough financial room to register the pair permanently.
The club is also exploring the sale of VIP boxes at the renovated Camp Nou as part of efforts to improve its financial position before the deadline.
Despite the uncertainty, sources close to Olmo remain confident the issue will eventually be resolved, with the Spain international fully committed to continuing his career at his boyhood club.
