Arsenal delivered a remarkable statement of intent in the Premier League on Sunday after thrashing Manchester City 5-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners needed just 103 seconds to break the deadlock, with Martin Ødegaard finishing a quick move to put Mikel Arteta’s side in front. Arsenal continued to threaten, with Kai Havertz coming close to doubling the advantage before the break.

Softfootball reports that City eventually found an equaliser in the 55th minute when Erling Haaland rose to head home, but their joy lasted barely two minutes.

Thomas Partey’s long-range effort took a significant deflection off John Stones, leaving goalkeeper Stefan Ortega helpless as Arsenal regained the lead. The Ghanaian’s strike was his third Premier League goal of the season.

Arsenal quickly took control of the contest, with teenage defender Myles Lewis-Skelly scoring his first goal for the club to make it 3-1.

Havertz added a fourth in the 76th minute before Ethan Nwaneri completed the rout with a superb finish in stoppage time.

The victory moved Arsenal to 47 points, keeping them within touching distance of Liverpool at the top.
