Real Mallorca manager Jagoba Arrasate is anticipating a stern test against Barcelona, insisting the Catalan giants will be determined to bounce back from their recent La Liga setback.
Softfootball understands that Hansi Flick’s side head into Tuesday’s league clash after suffering a surprise 2-1 defeat to Las Palmas at the weekend. Despite the loss, Barcelona remain top of the La Liga standings.
Mallorca, meanwhile, will approach the fixture with confidence after securing a 2-1 home victory over Valencia.
Speaking to Tribal Football, Arrasate said he expects Barcelona to produce one of their strongest performances as they look to end their poor run in the league.
The Mallorca boss noted that while Barcelona have taken just one point from their last three La Liga matches, they remain a dangerous side and recently claimed victory in the UEFA Champions League.
Arrasate also pointed out that Barcelona’s blistering start to the season made their recent dip seem more dramatic than it actually is, describing short winless runs as a normal part of any campaign.
He added that his side will need to deliver an almost flawless display to stand any chance of taking a positive result from the encounter.
The Spanish coach also praised Barcelona’s aggressive defensive approach, highlighting the high pressing game implemented under Flick. While he acknowledged that space can open up behind Barcelona’s defence, Arrasate admitted exploiting those areas is far easier in theory than in practice because of the intensity and organisation of their press.
Mallorca currently sit in the upper half of the La Liga table and will be hoping to build on their recent victory when they travel to face the league leaders.
