Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has outlined exactly what his players need to improve on if they hope to challenge for the Premier League title in the future.
The Portuguese coach won two of his opening three matches in charge, against Bodo/Glimt and Everton, before suffering his first defeat as United boss in a 2-0 loss to Arsenal, courtesy of goals from Jurrien Timber and William Saliba.
Softfootball reports that the result left United in the bottom half of the table ahead of their trip to face Nottingham Forest.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Amorim was blunt about what’s required from his squad going forward. He said:
Impossible to win the Premier League without a team that doesn’t run. You can do a starting line-up with the best players on the planet, without running they also won’t win.
The former Sporting Lisbon boss also acknowledged the scale of the rebuilding job ahead of him at Old Trafford, adding:
We have some good things, but you can feel that there is so much to do. We are not the best team in the league, but our past is the best one in the league.
Amorim made clear he sees the challenge as a long-term project rather than a quick fix.
