Manchester United-bound manager Ruben Amorim has admitted that news of his impending departure from Sporting Lisbon has affected the mood within the squad, Softfootball reports.
Amorim is set to leave the Portuguese champions after agreeing a deal with Manchester United that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2027, with the option of an additional year. He is expected to take charge of his first match for the Red Devils against Ipswich on November 24.
United also paid Sporting an additional €1 million on top of Amorim’s €10 million release clause to secure his early release from the mandatory 30-day notice period.
Speaking ahead of Sporting’s league clash against Nacional, the Portuguese coach acknowledged that the ongoing speculation surrounding his exit has left his players feeling unsettled.
Amorim noticed a change in the atmosphere during a recent team meeting, with several players appearing anxious and distracted by the constant media coverage.
While insisting there has been no unrest or dressing-room rebellion, the 39-year-old admitted the squad is naturally finding it difficult to ignore the situation as Sporting prepare for a demanding run of fixtures.
Amorim also dismissed suggestions that Sporting captain Morten Hjulmand had to calm his teammates, maintaining that he remains in control of the dressing room and has always dealt openly and honestly with his players throughout his time at the club.
