Chelsea have secured the long-term future of highly rated academy forward Jesse Derry before sending the teenager to Sporting CP on loan for the next two seasons.
Softfooball understands this comes after Como have temporarily paused their pursuit of Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah. Club president Mirwan Suwarso has held discussions with Inter Milan president Giuseppe Marotta as the Serie A clubs assess the defender’s future, with Inter now emerging as a serious contender for his signature.
The 19-year-old has signed a new long-term contract with the Blues, with the extension reportedly agreed in early July amid interest from Bayern Munich and Juventus.

Derry will now spend the 2026/27 and 2027/28 seasons with Sporting CP, remaining in Portugal until June 2027. Chelsea will cover the player’s full salary throughout the loan, and crucially, the agreement does not include an option to buy.
The structure of the deal underlines Chelsea’s belief in Derry’s long-term potential, with the club viewing the loan as an opportunity for the young forward to gain valuable first-team experience before returning to Stamford Bridge.
