The majority owner of AC Milan, Gerry Cardinale, has described ex‑Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim as one of the most prepared and innovative managers, emphasising that Amorim’s belief in offensive, high‑intensity football perfectly aligns with AC Milan’s long‑term vision.

Speaking to the media, Cardinale said:

Amorim is one of the most prepared and innovative coaches: a clear football identity and a well-defined tactical approach.

Rúben believes in an offensive, high-intensity football. His philosophy fits perfectly with our vision.

This comes after AC Milan officially appointed Rúben Amorim as their new head coach, following his dismissal from Manchester United earlier this year. Softfootball can confirm that verbal agreements have been completed for a contract valid until June 2028, with an option to extend to 2029.

Reacting to his appointment, Amorim expressed deep pride and fulfilment, revealing that managing AC Milan has long been one of his biggest ambitions. This was his reaction:

“There are ambitions that accompany you throughout your career and, for me, coaching Milan has always been one of them”.

“I know perfectly well what AC Milan represents: history, prestige and extraordinary fans all over the world. It is a challenge that I face with pride and enthusiasm, with full awareness of what these colors mean”.

“I can’t wait to start and live every day the passion that animates Milan”.

Rúben Amorim was sacked by Manchester United on January 5, 2026, less than 24 hours after an explosive post‑match press conference following a 1–1 draw against Leeds United, where he publicly clashed with the club hierarchy over his role and transfer policy.

On the other hand, Markus Krösche, who has been strongly linked to the Head of Football role at AC Milan, is now in the final stages of taking the position. Softfootball understands the deal is expected to be completed this week, finalising Milan’s new leadership structure as the club enters a fresh era.
