Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted his side is failing to make progress following Monday’s 2-0 Premier League defeat to Newcastle United, Softfootball reports.
The loss was United’s fourth in a row and left the club languishing in 14th place, just seven points above the relegation zone. With a daunting trip to face league leaders Liverpool next, pressure continues to mount on the Portuguese coach.
Speaking after the match, Amorim acknowledged the seriousness of United’s situation, admitting the team is in one of the most difficult periods in the club’s recent history. He accepted responsibility for the poor run and insisted there was no room for excuses.
According to the former Sporting CP manager, the squad has failed to show the improvement expected since his arrival, describing the current performances as disappointing and unacceptable for a club of Manchester United’s stature.
Amorim also admitted it was uncomfortable to discuss the possibility of a relegation battle but stressed that everyone at the club must confront reality and fight to turn the season around. He added that limited training time has made it harder to correct fundamental issues, especially during a packed fixture schedule where every team is capable of causing an upset.
