Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji has expressed his delight after Erling Haaland committed his future to the Premier League champions with a new long-term contract.
Haaland signed a deal that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2034, extending his stay with the club after an impressive spell since arriving from Borussia Dortmund.
Akanji believes the Norwegian striker has fully earned the new contract, with Softfootball reporting that the defender is pleased to continue playing alongside one of the world’s most prolific forwards.
Speaking via the club’s official website, Akanji praised Haaland’s qualities and his contribution to the team; saying:
I’m really happy he’s staying here for a long time. He’s the best striker in the world and fully deserves this contract.
Haaland has been instrumental in City’s success since joining the club, helping them win major trophies while consistently scoring goals.
Akanji also highlighted the striker’s physical strength, pace and ability to hold up the ball, which he believes make him difficult for defenders to handle.
The defender will now hope Haaland’s new commitment can help City return to their best form.
