History has been made at AFCON 2025 as all four teams that qualified for the semi-finals are led by players who have won the CAF African Player of the Year award at least once.

Softfootball confirms that Egypt, Senegal, Morocco and Nigeria all parade African football royalty as the tournament enters its decisive stage.

Egypt’s talisman Mohamed Salah, a two-time African Player of the Year winner in 2017 and 2018, once again proved decisive. His 52nd-minute strike powered the Pharaohs to a dramatic 3–2 victory over defending champions Côte d’Ivoire, sealing their semi-final place.

Morocco are inspired by Achraf Hakimi, who etched his name into history after winning the 2025 CAF African Player of the Year award. The Atlas Lions followed that individual success with a commanding 2–0 win over Cameroon to advance.

Senegal’s hopes rest on Sadio Mané, a two-time African Player of the Year winner in 2019 and 2022. His experience and leadership continue to define the Teranga Lions as they chase continental glory.
Nigeria stand out from the rest, becoming the only semi-finalist with two African Player of the Year winners in their squad.

Victor Osimhen, the 2023 winner, and Ademola Lookman, crowned in 2024, headline a Super Eagles side brimming with quality. Osimhen was instrumental in Nigeria’s 2–0 quarter-final victory over Algeria, scoring and providing a key assist for Akor Adams.
With star power spread across all four camps, AFCON 2025’s semi-finals promise elite quality, pedigree and unforgettable moments.
