Softfootball can now confirm that Neymar is back. The Brazilian forward marked his return from knee surgery by delivering an assist in his first appearance of 2026 as Santos cruised to a dominant 6–0 victory over Velo Clube on Carnival Sunday in Vila.
Coming off the bench in the second half, the 32-year-old wasted no time in making his presence felt. Neymar produced a precise through pass that led directly to a goal, helping Santos secure qualification for the second phase of the Paulistão 2026.
The assist was also confirmed by journalist Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle.
Romano stated:
First game in 2026, first assist delivered by Neymar Jr for Santos.
After months on the sidelines recovering from knee surgery, Neymar’s comeback performance is being viewed as a major positive step. His gradual return to full fitness now carries added significance, with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon.

Only a few months ago, Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti addressed growing speculation about Neymar’s international future.
Speaking in December, Ancelotti made it clear that selection would be based purely on merit and fitness when he names his squad in May. Neymar’s strong return at club level could therefore prove crucial in reigniting his World Cup ambitions.
Elsewhere in football, the Premier League continues to generate headlines, with James Trafford recently admitting he did not expect to find himself in a backup role at Manchester City this season.
