Mohamed Salah has heaped huge praise on Dominik Szoboszlai as shared by fabrizo romano via their x handle, calling the Hungarian midfielder “one of the best players in the world right now” and admitting that Liverpool’s FA Cup hopes this season depend heavily on his form.
The comments came after Liverpool’s dominant 3–0 win over Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday, February 14, 2026. Szoboszlai was outstanding on the night, scoring a stunning second-half goal to take his tally into double figures for the season.
After the match, Salah said:
“I think a cup run depends on his performances. We rely on him so much. This season he is one of the best players in the world.”
Szoboszlai, who has now scored five goals in his last eight games, stayed humble in response to the praise, insisting he is focused on building his own legacy rather than living up to past club icons.
“I’m not playing a Steven Gerrard season… I’m trying to write my own story,” he said.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot also welcomed Salah’s return to the squad after AFCON duty with Egypt, admitting the team missed his cutting edge in front of goal.

While the Reds remained unbeaten in Salah’s absence, Slot noted that having a proven goalscorer back in the team instantly raises belief and intensity.
The relationship between manager and star forward, which had been questioned earlier in the season, is now said to be back on solid ground.
With Salah back firing and Szoboszlai hitting elite form, Liverpool look well-equipped for a deep FA Cup run. As reported by Softfootball, the Egyptian’s return has lifted the mood around the squad, while Szoboszlai’s performances are fast making him one of the first names on the teamsheet as the season enters its decisive phase.
