The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sent their condolences to Fulham star, Samuel Chukwueze following the death of his mother, Sarah in the early hours of Thursday, 29th January 2026, Softfootball reports.
The news sent Nigeria football into mourning and his club was not left out as they sent their deepest condolences to Chukwueze who scored in Fulham’s 2-1 victory over Brighton after he returned from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Chukwueze is loved in London and during the Africa Cup of Nations, Fulham fans from Ireland traveled to Morocco to show support to him and his Cottager teammates, Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi in the Nigerian team.

Fulham announced via their official X handle in a heartfelt message to the player. The statement read:
We are all with you, Chukwu. Sending you and your family our deepest condolences. 🖤
The announcement of Sarah Chukwueze’s passing was made by Samuel’s sister, Princess Chukwueze, and his brother, David, on their respective social media platforms in the morning of Thursday, 29th January 2026, stating that the matriarch of the family had died after a brief illness.

A distraught General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Mohammed Sanusi, said:
We are aware that Mrs Sarah Chukwueze was a vital and supportive presence in the lives of her children, including our international player, Samuel Chukwueze. Samuel has always, at every opportunity, acknowledged his mother’s influence on his professional development. We are sad at her departure, coming only a few days after we had to mourn the sudden passing of the father of Super Eagles’ captain, Wilfred Ndidi. We pray that God will grant her eternal rest, and also grant those she has left behind, including Samuel and his siblings, the fortitude to bear the big loss.

It is not known yet if Chukwueze, who won bronze with Nigeria at AFCON will be available for Fulham’s next match against Manchester United on Sunday or travel back to Nigeria to be with his family at this time of mourning.
