Nigeria’s coach, Eric Chelle rested players for the third place match against the Pharaohs. Man-of-the-Match winner against Algeria, Victor Osimhen was on the bench alongside Ademola Lookman, who was Man-of-the-Match against Tunisia, Frank Onyeka, and Alex Iwobi while Calvin Bassey was suspended following his yellow card against Morocco in the semifinal.
Egypt was led by Liverpool’s star man, Mohamed Salah while Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush was on the bench for their final match at the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Paul Onuachu partnered Akor Adams in the absence of Osimhen and held his own with his link-up play and was a constant threat to the Egyptian defense. The Super Eagles scored as Adams headed in a cross from Fulham winger, Samuel Chukwueze but after the VAR checked, the goal was removed as Onauchu was adjudged to have elbowed an Egyptian defender. He was then shown a yellow card.
The Pharaohs found it difficult breaking the Eagles defense and only had a shot on target in 90 minutes as the match ended goalless. There was no extra time as the match moved straight into penalties.

During the shoot-out, Lazio midfielder, Dele-Bashiru missed Nigeria’s first penalty but Stanley Nwabali save from Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush as the Eagles took advantage with goals from Moses Simon, Akor Adams, Alex Iwobi before the decider from Ademola Lookman which made it 4-2 on penalties in favor of Nigeria. Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali won the Man-of-the-Match award after the game.
