Xabi Alonso Downplays Rift Rumours as He Highlights ‘Mutual Trust’ With Vinícius Júnior

3 Min Read

Xabi Alonso moved quickly to calm the noise surrounding his relationship with Vinícius Júnior, leaning heavily on the idea of trust and communication after weeks of speculation about tension between the two.

Softfootball reported that Vinicius had to apologise to the Madrid fan base after walking off on his manager following an El Clásico substitution, and recent rumours now suggest that the player is contemplating leaving the capital club.

As revealed by sports expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X account, Alonso insisted things are far healthier behind the scenes than many reports have suggested.

He said

Xabi Alonso: The relationship with Vini Jr is very good; Vini is considered a key player, and there’s mutual trust between us.

We talk before matches; he knows what I’m thinking, I know what he’s thinking… it’s best way to make decisions together

He explained that he and Vinícius understand each other on a deeper level than people realise, stressing that there’s constant dialogue before matches and a shared approach when making decisions about his role.

The comment felt a bit like a manager trying to steady the ship—especially with the recent chatter about the Brazilian’s frustrations over his position and playing time.

The quote came at a time when stories of friction had been swirling for months. Ever since the Club World Cup semifinal back in July, when Alonso initially planned to bench Vinícius and later shifted him to the right wing, some fans have believed the relationship has never fully settled.

Add in the rotation this season and the tense moment after El Clásico, and the narrative practically wrote itself.

But Alonso pushed back firmly in an earlier report, framing Vinícius not as a sidelined star but as a key player who remains central to Real Madrid’s plans.

It’s also true that, despite the rumours, Vinícius continues to deliver strong performances this season, which makes Alonso’s insistence on mutual trust feel both believable and strategically necessary; however, despite being reliable the Brazilian is still far awy from his prime.

Behind all this, Real Madrid are still performing well, sitting high in La Liga and keeping their structure intact. Still, the club knows harmony with a player of Vinícius’ status isn’t optional; it’s essential.

Alonso’s message, intentional or not, seemed designed to remind everyone that whatever disagreements exist, the core relationship is still intact. Whether that cools the speculation or simply adds another layer to it, we’ll probably find out soon enough.
