Arne Slot Takes Responsibility as Liverpool Collapse Again

3 Min Read

Arne Slot walked into his post-match press conference looking like a man carrying too many things at once. And honestly, who could blame him? Liverpool’s 3–0 loss to Nottingham Forest at Anfield wasn’t just another bad day; it felt like the sort of defeat that sticks to a season.

It was somewhat unexpected; even Softfootball expected the Reds to turn a new leaf and get the victory as predicted in the pregame report due to the international break that was supposed to reset the team.

The defeat means it’s now six losses in their last seven Premier League games, a run that has basically ripped their title defence into pieces and left fans wondering what exactly is going on.

In the interview, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano via his official X account, Slot didn’t dodge anything. He accepted full responsibility, saying straight up that the performances aren’t good enough and that the tweaks he tried making during the match simply didn’t work.

Despite raising injury concerns in the build-up to this game, Slot admitted that Liverpool still have very good players on paper, but that it’s on him to get the best out of them, something he said he’s clearly not doing right now.

Fabrizio tweeted:

Arne Slot: If things go well or things go bad it’s always my responsibility. I tried to adjust a few things that didn’t really work out.

We have quality players. It’s my job to get the best out of them. I am not at the moment. It’s my responsibility.

The Dutchman was especially frustrated with how easily Forest scored their goals, including one from a set piece that he felt was avoidable. He pointed out that Liverpool actually started brightly and created a few half-chances in the first 30 minutes but then completely lost any sort of control.

They were second-best in most physical duels, slow to react to second balls, and looked weirdly rushed whenever they had possession. Slot didn’t sugar-coat it; he called the whole thing “unacceptable” and a significant blow.

He also reflected a bit, mentioning that narrow margins have been haunting them lately, including the disallowed goal against Manchester City which, in his view, sort of changed the direction of their season. Yes, they beat Aston Villa and Real Madrid not long ago, but the consistency just hasn’t been there at all.

Still, Slot insisted that Liverpool will recover, though he warned it won’t magically happen in one weekend. He urged the players to show resilience and take more responsibility from here on out.
