Nuno Espírito Santo returns to London as new West Ham coach

Softfootball can confirm the appointment of former Nottingham Forest and London-based club Tottenham coach Nuno Espírito Santo as the new manager at West Ham, replacing Graham Potter.

Meanwhile, the reason for West Ham parting ways with Potter wasn’t far-fetched, as the former England national team boss has been unable to make meaningful impacts so far this season. Potter’s last game with the Hammers saw them falling in the hands of their rivals, Tottenham, 3-0 in what was a jealous London derby.

The news of Espirito’s appointment came as a surprise, seeing that he wasn’t on the radar to sign for the Hammers, who just parted ways with their estranged manager. Seeing the recent setback that affected Espirito, who was laid off by Nottingham Forest over “loggerheads” with the club management, many had thought he would still be reflecting on the impediment.

But he was appointed this afternoon with immediate effect at the London Stadium, as revealed by West Ham on their official X handle.

The club made the statement as this:

West Ham United is delighted to announce the appointment of Nuno Espírito Santo as the Club’s new men’s Head Coach.

While speaking, Espirito appreciated the West Ham board for entrusting the club’s rebuilding process with him and promised to deliver. As reported on the club’s website, Espirito said:

I am very pleased to be here and very proud to be representing West Ham United. My objective is to work hard to get the very best from the team and ensure that we are as competitive as we possibly can be. The work has already started and I am looking forward to the challenge that is ahead.

Espirito is expected to begin work immediately at the club, with the club showing that he has resumed at West Ham’s training ground. See the picture below as revealed on the West Ham official X handle:

Santo is not strange in the EPL, having managed clubs like Wolves, Tottenham, and recently Nottingham Forest in the last seven seasons. He has an average 48.13% win rate across all his managerial games as he starts his first test at West Ham, which will be against Everton on Monday.
