Former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has reportedly agreed to join Polish side Pogon Szczecin FC on two year contract.
Softfootball understood that the France International abruptly parted ways with Swiss side Zurich at the end of July after making just eight appearances for the club, and the least that could be said about Mendy’s six-month spell in Switzerland, is that very few people will regret the 2018 World Cup winner’s exit.
He only played eight games, but started only three. Mendy’s time will be remembered by several high-profile on-pitch blunders. He did not deliver what was expected of a player of his status.

Zurich’s signing of the full-back prompted negative reaction in Switzerland. Mendy was absent from FC Zürich’s preseason training camp, officially through injury, but Softfootball was reliably informed that the former Manchester City left-back was seen attending a concert in Spain.
Eventually, the ex Monaco star was dismissed from Zurich after throwing a party right after a crushing 0-4 defeat to Basel. Although he was given another chance to redeem himself following the incident, he couldn’t rein in his nightlife habits, which ultimately exhausted the club’s patience.
Now, according to Fabrizio Romano via his X handle, Mendy’s next destination is set to be Poland’s Pogoń Szczecin. The three time Premier League champion with Man City is reportedly ready to sign a two-year contract with the Polish side. The deal has been agreed, and its official confirmation could be soon. The post reads:
Benjamin Mendy has agreed to join Polish side Pogon Szczecin FC on two year contract. Mendy was available as free agent and will continue his career in Poland.
Now aged 31, Mendy played 10 times for France, including one group-stage game during the country’s victorious 2018 World Cup campaign. His name was sung prominently in the France team’s unofficial tournament anthem that has almost 600 million views on YouTube.
The defender joined Lorient in 2023 after six years at City, where he won three Premier League winner’s medals before his contract expired. He did not play for City after August 2021 while facing sexual assault charges of which he was later acquitted.
Previously, former Chelsea midfielder Lucas Piazon also made the move to Poland, but unlike Mendy, he’s not playing in the top division, but for the First League side Wieczysta Krakow.
In an earlier post, Softfootball reported that Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has set an unwanted record with lowest win rate of any Red Devils boss since the Second World War.
