Former Manchester United winger Alexis Sánchez is set to join Sevilla, with a deal in place on a one-year contract as the ex Gunner arrives today for medical.

The Chilean forward is seeking a final challenge in Europe, and the Andalusian club sees him as a strategic addition to strengthen their attack.

In the early hours of Monday, Fabrizio Romano reported via his X handle that Sevilla had agreed a deal to sell Dodi Lukebakio to Benfica, with the Portuguese giants having met the €30m asking price that had been set, and they have moved quickly to secure a possible replacement in Alexis Sánchez. His post reads:

“Alexis Sánchez, on the verge of joining Sevilla as free agent after Dodi Lukebakio signing in at Benfica.

Small details ahead of formal steps as Nino Maravilla will play at Sevilla.”

The Chilean forward returns to Spain over a decade after his time at Barcelona, where he shone between 2011 and 2014 with 47 goals and 35 assists in 141 matches. His subsequent journey includes spells at Arsenal, Manchester United, Inter Milan, and Olympique de Marseille.

In the last season with Udinese, Sanchez only played 434 minutes in 13 official matches, a far cry from his usual level. However, in Sevilla, there is confidence that he can regain prominence in a competitive environment like LaLiga.

At 36 years old, he is not arriving as an undisputed starting forward but as a high caliber reinforcement for a squad seeking balance in attack.

Sevilla expects the Chilean to bring international experience, leadership, and offensive versatility. Throughout his career, he has amassed over 650 official matches and 200 goals, in addition to being Chile’s all-time top scorer with 52 goals.

In an earlier post, Softfootball reported that Premier Leage side, Sunderland have struck an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Lutsharel Geertruida on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.
