Barca finally register Joan Garcia ahead of Mallorca clash, some details still missing

After a long wait and a lot of speculations, Barcelona have finally succeeded in registering their new signing, Joan Garcia in La Liga ahead of Saturday’s clash against Mallorca, Softfootball reports.

The process was completed in the early hours of Saturday morning, with Garcia’s name now reflecting on the La Liga official transfers page for the 2025/26 season on their website.

Barca signed Garcia from RCD Espanyol earlier this summer, shelling out his €25 million release clause amount, adjusted for inflation, beating several other teams to his capture.

However, the club’s ongoing Financial Fair Play constraints made the registration process a complex hurdle. The breakthrough came unexpectedly with the long-term injury to captain Marc-André ter Stegen, allowing Barcelona to utilise his salary space to complete Garcia’s registration.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle confirmed this as he said:

“Barça confirm LaLiga’s Medical Committee has ruled that goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen’s injury meets the long-term injury criteria established by current regulations.

“The club will proceed tomorrow to immediately formalise the registration of player Joan García”.

The La Liga giants submitted all required documentation on Friday, paving the way for the 24-year-old shot-stopper to potentially make his official debut tonight against Mallorca, and fans are eager to see Garcia in action, bringing fresh energy to the squad.

However, two minor details remain unresolved on La Liga’s official website. Garcia is currently listed without a shirt number, while, curiously, Inaki Pena is assigned the No. 1 jersey.

Additionally, Garcia’s profile picture has yet to be updated on the roster page, leaving a placeholder in its place. Barcelona are now expecting that Marcus Rashford’s registration will also be completed in the coming hours.

Despite these small oversights, Barcelona’s successful registration of Joan Garcia marks a significant step forward for the club as they navigate their financial challenges and aim to compete at the highest level this season.
