AS Monaco are considering a summer swoop for Newcastle United right-back Kieran Trippier, with the Ligue 1 club assessing whether to table a formal bid for the England international.
The 34-year-old has just one year remaining on his £120,000-a-week contract at St. James’ Park and has seen his starting role overtaken by 21-year-old Tino Livramento a shift that may have encouraged Monaco’s interest.

Softfootball reports that Monaco view Trippier as a potential defensive upgrade ahead of their return to Champions League football, while Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is said to regard him as a key player and is reluctant to sanction any sale.
German transfer insider Florian Plettenberg shared on his official X account:
“AS Monaco are interested in signing Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier. The Ligue 1 side are weighing up a move and are keen on the right-back.
“#NUFC are reluctant to part with the England international, a key figure for Eddie Howe, but Trippier has just one year remaining on his contract.”
This is not Monaco’s first flirtation with the former Tottenham and Atlético Madrid man they were also linked in January 2024, when Bayern Munich led the chase, although no deal materialised at the time.
Newcastle’s transfer window has already been under the microscope, with only three incoming first-team signings expected once Malick Thiaw’s arrival from AC Milan is completed following agreement from all parties.
Much of the off-field noise has centred around Alexander Isak’s desire to join Liverpool, but Trippier’s situation could become the next big talking point in the final days of the window.

Since joining Newcastle in January 2022, Trippier has been a mainstay and a fan favourite in the club’s Saudi-led era, playing a pivotal role in their rise back to the top end of the Premier League. Losing him now especially without a ready-made replacement would be a major call for Howe.
For now, Monaco are weighing their options. With the clock ticking on both the transfer deadline and Trippier’s contract, the next few days could decide whether the England veteran stays on Tyneside or embarks on a new chapter in the principality.
