Inzaghi Wants Darwin Núñez to Al-Hilal Amid Growing Uncertainty at Liverpool

Darwin Núñez could be on his way out of Anfield, with Saudi giants Al-Hilal ramping up efforts to sign the Uruguayan striker this summer. Softfootball confirmed that, new head coach Simone Inzaghi has made Núñez his top attacking priority, so much so that he’s personally requested the move.

Talks between Núñez and Al-Hilal are said to be underway, though Liverpool has yet to receive a formal bid.

Still, the Reds have reportedly opened discussions, and Inzaghi has already spoken directly with the 26-year-old to sell him on the project with the blessings of the Reds. This was revealed by Transfer Expert, Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle.

He claimed:

“Al Hilal have presented official proposal to Darwin Nunez in terms of contract details/salary. After project presented as revealed in last 48h, contract terms being discussed. Liverpool, waiting for official bid to follow soon.”

He also reiterated the information in another post, claiming:

“More on Darwin Núñez and Al Hilal story from earlier this week. Understand Al Hilal manager Simone Inzaghi wants Núñez as priority target.

“Liverpool authorized Darwin to held talks with Al Hilal and also direct talks with Simone Inzaghi. No formal bid has been sent yet.”

For Núñez, this could be the turning point. Despite contributing 40 goals and 22 assists in 143 appearances since arriving from Benfica in a deal that could rise to £85m, he hasn’t fully convinced.

Last season, he managed just five Premier League goals and was notably benched during key stretches, especially after Arne Slot started experimenting with Luis Díaz as a false nine.

Softfootball understands that Darwin Núñez is reportedly a priority, and the Saudis have already made contact with Liverpool’s board, which signals intent. And with Díaz now at Bayern Munich, the Reds are really looking to rejig their frontline.

Should Núñez leave, it could trigger a big-money pursuit for someone more aligned with Slot’s vision, most likely the public pursuit of Alexander Isak, following the acquisition of Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike.

One thing is clear; Liverpool has decisions to make, and fast. With pre-season well underway and no fresh attacking signings yet through the door, the pressure is rising at Anfield to fill a void left by the late Diogo Jota and the departure of Luis Diaz.
