AS Roma have finalised the signing of highly rated right-back Wesley França from Brazilian giants Flamengo, completing a deal worth €25 million with an additional €5 million in performance-related bonuses.
Softfootball understands that the 21-year-old, who turns 22 in September, caught the eye of Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini and became one of his priority targets, pushing the Italian side to go all in in securing the signature of the young fullback.
Wesley, a Flamengo academy graduate, made over 130 appearances for the Rio de Janeiro side and earned two caps for Brazil’s senior team.

After weeks of negotiations, Roma finally struck a deal. Wesley flew to Italy over the weekend, completed his medicals, and signed a five-year contract that will keep him at the Stadio Olimpico until 2030. He’s expected to feature as a wing-back in Gasperini’s setup and will wear the No. 43 shirt.
AS Roma made the announcement on all their social media platforms, announcing their latest signing, They even posted a video of Wesley adressing the Roma fans via their official X account.

Back in Brazil, Wesley’s departure marks the end of a steady rise. Initially criticised by fans, he grew into a reliable starter under former teammate-turned-coach Filipe Luís. His farewell moment came with a winning goal against Red Bull Bragantino his fourth for the club.
Flamengo, meanwhile, had no plans to let Wesley go without lining up a replacement. Talks with Roma stalled earlier in July when the Italians tabled an offer of €20 million plus €2 million in add-ons, which Flamengo promptly rejected. The Rio side held firm, insisting on a more substantial offer before greenlighting the move.
Only after securing the arrival of Emerson Royal from Tottenham for €9 million did Flamengo agree to let Wesley leave. The deal reflects Flamengo’s strategy of selling at top value while ensuring squad depth.
For Roma, the signing signals intent. With the new Serie A season on the horizon, they’ve added a promising talent who fits Gasperini’s tactical blueprint and offers energy and versatility down the right flank.
