Liverpool star on West Ham’s radar as club pushes for loan-to-buy agreement

West Ham United have reportedly expressed interest in highly rated Liverpool talent Harvey Elliott as they look to bolster their attacking options. Comfortable as either a midfielder or winger, Elliott has shown flashes of brilliance for Liverpool in recent years but struggled for consistent minutes under Arne Slot last season.

Fresh from his summer heroics, having guided England’s under 21s to a second successive European title under Lee Carsley, Elliott’s club future now comes under the spotlight amid links with Premier League rivals.

The midfielder, who joined Liverpool from Fulham as a teenager in 2019, was a regular in the final two campaigns of the Jurgen Klopp era, he played 99 times between 2022 and 2024 but his game time was reduced markedly in the first season under new boss Arne Slot as the Reds won the title.

It has been anticipated for some time that Elliott would probably have to leave Anfield in order to secure more regular football as he’s behind the likes of Dominik Szboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis MacAllister and Curtis Jones in the midfield pecking order, while they’ve also signed Florian Wirtz for a nine-figure sum.

According to TransferNews Live post on X handle, it revealed that:

“West Ham want to sign Harvey Elliott from Liverpool but are unsure on his £40M valuation.”

Last season was a disappointing one for West Ham. The club spent heavily ahead of the campaign to back Julen Lopetegui but the Spaniard, for whatever reason, struggled to get any consistency from his players and was sacked in January, just months into his tenure.

In his place, the Hammers appointed former Brighton and Chelsea managar, Graham Potter in what marked his first job in almost two years, Potter endured a relatively indifferent start to life at the London Stadium, with West Ham finishing the Premier League season in 16th place.

Potter made just one signing in the winter window, adding Evan Ferguson to his squad on loan, who has since departed. The club have already been active this summer, adding left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf to bolster their defence. They are also close to recruiting Kyle Walker-Peters on a free transfer amidst other potential signings.

With Mohammed Kudus having joined Tottenham, West Ham have at least some money for Potter to spend and seem to be considering a move for a talent on the cusp of truly breaking out in the Premier League.

This has sparked rumours over Elliott’s future. At just 22 years old, the England youth international is in need of regular first-team football if he hopes to develop further. This is something that Elliott, who has been dubbed a “special” player, would surely receive with West Ham, particularly given that Kudus has departed the London Stadium.

As per the report, West Ham are “unsure” about Liverpool’s valuation of Elliott, which is around £40 million. As such, the Hammers may pursue a loan with an option to buy to better suit their current financial situation for Elliott, who they have shown interest in before.

Elliott would be a sensational addition for the Hammers, though whether West Ham can negotiate a deal for the midfielder remains to be seen.
