Vinicius Junior’s Future at Real Madrid in Doubt 7 Years After Joining

Real Madrid have shifted their focus to player departures following the announcement of Álvaro Carreras as their fourth signing of the summer window.

The club’s transfer strategy is now clear: no new first-team additions will be made unless there are significant outgoings. Among the names being discussed behind the scenes, one stands out: Vinicius Junior.

According to Dailymail, it’s been seven years since Real Madrid splashed €46 million to sign a teenage Vinicius from Flamengo. Since then the Brazilian winger has become one of the brightest attacking talents in world football. On his best days, few can match his pace, flair, and creativity.

Some pundits even argued that he should have been crowned the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner ahead of Manchester City’s Rodri. However, the 2024/25 season brought new challenges. The arrival of Kylian Mbappé has disrupted Vinicius’ rhythm and shifted the club’s dynamics.

Real Madrid ended the campaign trophyless, and Vinicius’ inconsistent performances drew internal criticism. Despite recently being named the fourth captain of the squad, signs suggest he may be unsettled.

According to Softfootball, contract talks between Vinicius and the club have stalled. With less than two years left on his current deal, uncertainty looms, especially as Saudi Arabian clubs monitor the situation closely. Both parties are not expected to return to the negotiation table until 2026.

Discussions reportedly paused in February when the winger requested a pay rise to €20 million per year surpassing even Mbappé. Los Blancos, however, have been hesitant to meet those demands.

Real Madrid just extended Thibaut Courtois’ contract and are working on a renewal for Brahim Díaz. Though they remain open to offering Vinicius a new deal, club officials will only proceed if they believe the terms are reasonable.

As things stand, Madrid must make a pivotal decision: sell Vinicius and give Mbappé the left-wing role he craves or recommit to the Brazilian with a lucrative new deal. Either way, the clock is ticking.
