Two Manchester United outcasts wanted at Turin

Softfootball has been notified that two outcasts from Manchester United are wanted by Italian giants Juventus. The Serie A giants look to capitalise on the Premier League club’s summer clear-out.

According to Sky Sports Italia, Juventus has opened a bid for both Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, who have long since been shown the exit door at Old Trafford.

United have made no secret of their willingness to part ways with both players, with Ruben Amorim greenlighting an aggressive squad overhaul that also includes the availability of Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia.

As part of internal protocols, the five players have been allowed access to the club’s Carrington training base, but only outside first-team hours, arriving after 5pm once Amorim’s squad has concluded their sessions for the day.

Sancho, 24, spent last season on loan at Chelsea following a high-profile fallout with former manager Erik ten Hag and has not featured for United’s senior side since August 2023. Chelsea chose to terminate their option to buy, paying £5 million to exit the deal early.

However, a fresh opportunity now appears likely in Turin, with sources confirming that Sancho’s representatives held positive talks with Juventus on Wednesday.

A permanent deal for the England winger is reportedly close, with a fee of £13 million under discussion, a significant drop from the £72 million United paid to sign him from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.

Alongside Sancho, Juventus also initiated exploratory talks regarding Rashford during further discussions with United on Thursday. The 26-year-old forward, who scored just eight goals in all competitions last season, is no longer in Amorim’s plans and was dropped from the squad in December.

Rashford’s future remains uncertain, although Juventus are believed to be considering multiple options to bolster their attacking depth. The Bianconeri view both players as potential value signings given their age, international experience, and the discounted fees on offer.

Meanwhile, United’s squad reshaping under Amorim continues. Matheus Cunha, signed from Wolves for £62.5 million, remains the club’s only major acquisition of the window so far and has already taken Rashford’s No. 10 shirt, a symbolic move that underscores the forward’s diminishing role.

To further strengthen their squad, Manchester United are hesitant to sign Brentford player Bryan Mbeumo, as the deal still looks unclear.

As Softfootball reported last Thursday, Manchester United was again “played” by Brentford over the signing of Bryan Mbeumo, despite the player being strongly-willed to join Ruben Amorim’s squad.

Manchester United hit a stumbling block over the striker due to Brentford’s sudden rise in the asking price to nearly £70 million. This fee has been said to have gone beyond bounds, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe is currently unwilling to meet.

Whether Rashford follows Sancho to Italy remains to be seen. Still, with Juventus pushing and United eager to trim their wage bill and reset their attacking options, movement is expected in the coming weeks.
