Marcus Rashford has returned to Manchester United’s Carrington training ground as the club increasingly believes the forward has a serious chance of remaining at Old Trafford for the 2026-27 season.
Softfootball understands that the 28-year-old returned to England following the 2026 FIFA World Cup and has now rejoined Michael Carrick’s squad for pre-season preparations.
Despite continued transfer speculation, Rashford is understood to be ruling out moves to Turkey and Saudi Arabia at this stage. His preference is believed to be remaining in European football, while Manchester United have shown increasing openness to keeping him at the club.
Carrick is also understood to be keen to work with the forward and assess him during pre-season before a final decision is made regarding his future.
Rashford’s return gives the new United head coach an opportunity to evaluate the attacker’s fitness, form and suitability for his tactical plans. The winger’s pace, versatility and experience could provide valuable attacking depth if he successfully convinces the coaching staff that he can play an important role.
Manchester United are therefore no longer actively pushing for Rashford’s departure at all costs. Instead, the club is prepared to consider retaining him if the pre-season period demonstrates that he can contribute significantly to Carrick’s project.
