Marcus Rashford is set to return to Manchester United after Barcelona decided against making his loan move permanent.
The England international is expected to return to pre-season training under manager Michael Carrick, who already has a positive relationship with the forward and could play an important role in rebuilding Rashford’s connection with the club.
However, Softfootball understands Rashford will face increased competition for places following the arrivals and emergence of attacking options including Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Benjamin Šeško.
His return could also prove complicated from a relationship standpoint, with his connection with Manchester United supporters having become strained during the previous campaign.
Meanwhile, Manchester United will continue preparations for the 2026/27 season when they face European champions Paris Saint-Germain in a high-profile pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils enter the fixture after a 2-1 victory over Atlético Madrid in the Snapdragon Cup, while PSG began their preparations with a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Mallorca.
The friendly will provide another opportunity for Carrick to assess his squad, with Rashford’s future at Old Trafford now one of the key situations to monitor ahead of the new campaign.
