Softfootball has gathered that Real Madrid has signed the former Manchester United youngster on a six-year deal.
Madrid announced on their official website the agreement of Álvaro Carreras from Benfica, with the Spanish full-back returning to the club on a six-year contract until June 2031.

The 22-year-old left-back rejoins Los Blancos after coming through the club’s academy between 2017 and 2020, before spells with Manchester United and, most recently, Benfica.
Carreras impressed in Portugal last season, helping Benfica lift the 2025 Portuguese League Cup and continuing his development as one of Europe’s brightest young defenders. He had previously earned recognition at Manchester United, where he was named the club’s Under-23 Player of the Season in 2021–22.
Carreras will be officially presented as a Real Madrid player on Tuesday at 1pm (CET) at Real Madrid City. Before the presentation, club president Florentino Pérez will host the formal contract-signing ceremony.
The Spaniard will then address the media for the first time since his return, as he begins the next chapter of his career back at the Santiago Bernabéu. This transfer is the third addition to Xabi Alonso’s team, who are also beefing up their defence ahead of the new season.
Recall, Softfootball had earlier reported Real Madrid eyeing Liverpool’s defender, Ibrahim Konate, for the giveaway of Rodrygo plus £30.4m. Konate is now in the last 12 months of his contract with the Premier League champions, who have been struggling to agree on an extension with his camp for some time.
As a result, there is a growing feeling that Konate will run down the final year of his deal before leaving on a free transfer and following the Trent Alexander-Arnold path to the Spanish capital.
