Liverpool turn to Guehi after Quansah exit, eye defensive reinforcements

Liverpool are set to intensify their pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi following the departure of Jarell Quansah, Softfootball understands.

The UK Mirror indicated that Reds had already been in advanced talks over a deal for the England international, with reports last week indicating that club officials were closing in on an agreement for the highly rated centre-back.

Softfootball earlier reported that Quansah’s switch to Bayer Leverkusen has now opened up a space in Arne Slot’s squad, and Crystal Palace’s defender Guehi has been identified as the ideal replacement. The 23-year-old, who impressed for Crystal Palace last season, is seen as a natural fit for Liverpool’s defensive system.

There could yet be further movement at the back, as the future of Ibrahima Konaté remains uncertain. The Frenchman is entering the final year of his contract, and negotiations over a new deal have yet to be concluded.

Aside from this, Liverpool are also making plans to bring in another striker, as earlier reported by Softfootball, and the name of Newcastle United’s sensational forward Alexander Isak has entered the conversation.

Liverpool has long admired the Swedish striker, and with uncertainty still surrounding the future of current No. 9 Darwin Núñez, Slot is reportedly eager to make a statement signing that reinforces his ambitions at Anfield.
