Manchester United legend Paul Parker issues warning to Amorim ahead of the new season

Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has advised manager Rúben Amorim to prepare for immediate pressure to deliver results at Old Trafford or face the risk of an early exit next season, Softfootball reports.

Amorim, who takes over after United’s worst-ever Premier League campaign that saw them lose 15 league games, has already admitted that he could walk away if performances don’t improve, as revealed by the Premier League. The 39-year-old Portuguese coach inherits a side in transition, with expectations high and patience wearing thin, but such grace might not be available next season.

“The most important thing at any football club is what happens on the pitch,” Parker said in an interview with SportsBoom.com. “That’s what makes or breaks everything. You can have all the money in the world, but without a proper football team, you won’t move forward.”

He continued, “Manchester United were hard to watch last season. Fifteen losses in a league campaign is unheard of; it’s worrying. Football may be evolving, but there’s still no excuse for that level of decline. And if Amorim doesn’t steady the ship quickly, questions will be asked.”

Earlier, Softfootball recorded that Manchester United are reportedly looking to sign in-form Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz this summer, ahead of Amorim’s debut full season at Old Trafford. It was also stated that Amorim wants completely new options in the attacking midfield roles, having signed Cunha.

Amorim’s appointment is seen as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s long-term restructuring, but Parker, who made over 100 appearances for the club and won two league titles under Sir Alex Ferguson, insists results will be the only measure that matters.
