Cristiano Ronaldo has reaffirmed his commitment to Portugal, insisting that he will always make himself available to the national team regardless of the role required from him.
The Al Nassr forward explained that his priority has always been representing Portugal, saying he would accept any responsibility from the coach, whether that means starting, being substituted, coming off the bench or even remaining unused.
Ronaldo’s comments underline the importance he places on his international career, with the veteran continuing to make himself available despite being 41 years old. His commitment comes after he confirmed that the 2026 World Cup would be his final appearance at the tournament.
The Portugal captain announced ahead of the knockout stage that the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico would be his last World Cup. He subsequently confirmed the decision after Portugal were eliminated by Spain in the round of 16.
Ronaldo leaves the World Cup stage having become the first player to score at six editions of the competition, while his international career includes Portugal’s Euro 2016 triumph and Nations League titles in 2019 and 2025.
Softfootball reports that Ronaldo remains part of Portugal’s plans under new head coach Jorge Jesus, who included him in his first squad after the World Cup. Jesus has made it clear that Ronaldo will be treated like every other player and must continue to earn his place through performances.
