- Onyekachi Apam — Centre Back
- Taye Taiwo — Left Back
- Mikel Obi — Defensive Midfielder
- Garba Lawal — Defensive Midfielder
- Nwankwo Kanu — Attacking Midfielder
- Obinna Nsofor — Left Forward
- Peter Odemwingie — Right Forward

Kaita’s selection sparked reactions from Nigerians, many recalling the 2010 FIFA World Cup incident that remains one of the most controversial moments in Super Eagles history.
During Nigeria’s second Group B match against Greece on 17 June 2010, the Super Eagles were leading 1–0 after an early free‑kick goal from Kalu Uche and were fully in control. However, the momentum changed dramatically in the 33rd minute.
After the ball went out for a throw‑in, Kaita got into a brief tangle with Greek defender Vasilis Torosidis.
