During Nigeria’s second Group B match against Greece on 17 June 2010, the Super Eagles were leading 1–0 after an early free‑kick goal from Kalu Uche and were fully in control. However, the momentum changed dramatically in the 33rd minute.

After the ball went out for a throw‑in, Kaita got into a brief tangle with Greek defender Vasilis Torosidis. In a moment of frustration, he kicked out at Torosidis, resulting in a straight red card, a decision that shifted the entire match and remains one of the most talked‑about moments in Nigeria’s World Cup history.
