Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted he still has concerns over his starting line-up ahead of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League play-off first-leg clash against Real Madrid.
The Premier League champions will host Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium in the first leg of their play-off tie as both sides battle for a place in the last 16 of the competition.
Manchester City have struggled with injuries throughout the campaign, with several key players, including Rodri and Jeremy Doku, having spent time on the sidelines.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Monday, Guardiola revealed that he was still unsure about his starting XI despite being excited about the highly anticipated encounter.
We are where we are and I know perfectly. But, the team has something special and hopefully tomorrow we can prove it,
Guardiola said.
I know the gameplan tomorrow. I still have doubts about the selection as we still have injuries… I am always optimistic and calm. We will see what happens… I am sure the players are looking forward to the game tomorrow.
The Spanish tactician also highlighted the significance of competing in Europe’s elite club competition and called on the Manchester City supporters to play their part.

Guardiola also acknowledged that Manchester City’s poor performance in the league phase contributed to their presence in the play-offs, where they were handed a difficult tie against the defending champions.
City will now look to overcome their injury concerns and secure a positive result against Real Madrid in the first leg before travelling to Spain for the decisive return fixture.
