Ademola Lookman has been ruled out of Atalanta’s UEFA Champions League encounter against Barcelona due to injury, Softfootball understands.

The Nigerian winger will miss the crucial matchday fixture at the Nou Camp after reportedly suffering a knee problem during Atalanta’s Serie A clash with Como last weekend.

Lookman has been a key player for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side this season, making his absence a major blow to the Italian club.

The 27-year-old is expected to spend several weeks on the sidelines, although his exact recovery timeline will depend on the results of further medical examinations.

The Super Eagles forward has enjoyed an impressive Champions League campaign, scoring four goals and providing two assists in six appearances.

He also found the net and registered an assist in Atalanta’s 5-0 victory over Austrian club Sturm Graz last week.

With Lookman unavailable, Atalanta will have to find a way to cope without one of their most dangerous attacking players when they face Barcelona. Further tests will determine when the Nigerian international can return to action.
