Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has been ruled out of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League encounter against Barcelona due to a knee injury.

The Nigeria international picked up the injury during Atalanta’s Serie A meeting with Como last weekend and is now expected to spend some time on the sidelines.

Softfootball understands that Lookman’s recovery timeline will be clearer after he undergoes further medical examinations in the coming days.

The 27-year-old is reportedly expected to miss several weeks, dealing a blow to Gian Piero Gasperini’s side ahead of their important European fixture.

Lookman has been one of Atalanta’s key attacking players this season and recently produced an impressive performance in the Champions League.

He scored once and provided an assist as La Dea secured a 5-0 victory over Austrian side Sturm Graz last week.

The winger has also made a strong contribution to Atalanta’s Champions League campaign, recording four goals and two assists in six appearances in the competition this season.

His absence will be a major concern for Gasperini as Atalanta prepare to face a Barcelona side in a crucial European encounter.
