Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has urged his players to share the goalscoring responsibility instead of relying heavily on Erling Haaland.
The Spaniard made the comments after City’s emphatic 8-0 FA Cup victory over Salford, where several players got on the scoresheet in an impressive attacking display.
Youngsters James McAtee, Nico O’Reilly and Divin Mubama all found the net alongside senior stars Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish.
Softfootball understands Guardiola believes contributions from across the squad will be vital if City are to compete successfully in the second half of the season.
Reflecting on the performance, Guardiola said:
Players that play up front have to deliver. Not just Jack, Erling, Doku, Savinho and Kevin when he plays there. You have to score goals and make assists, just to rely on the goals of Haaland is impossible.
The City manager also pointed to previous title-winning squads, saying:
The biggest clubs that win the league have strikers that score goals, but also a lot of players score a lot of goals and we need that.
Guardiola hopes his squad can maintain that balance moving forward.
