England-born Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom is attracting strong interest from several Ligue 1 clubs as uncertainty grows over his future at Ajax ahead of the January transfer window.

Akpom has found himself playing in a wider attacking role under Ajax manager Francesco Farioli, limiting his opportunities to feature in his preferred position.

Softfootball understands the 29-year-old is open to a temporary move in search of more regular football despite contributing seven goals in 27 appearances across all competitions this season.

According to Foot Mercato, via Get French Football News, a number of French top-flight clubs have identified the former Arsenal academy graduate as a potential January signing.

RC Lens, Stade Rennais, Lille, OGC Nice, Nantes and Saint-Étienne are all reportedly monitoring Akpom’s situation as they seek attacking reinforcements for the second half of the campaign.

The Nigerian-eligible forward joined Ajax after an impressive spell with Middlesbrough and remains highly regarded for his goalscoring ability, even though he has had to adapt to a different tactical role in Amsterdam.

With interest continuing to build in France, Akpom could become one of the names to watch when the January transfer window opens.
