Pep Guardiola has taken full responsibility for Manchester City’s latest setback, admitting he isn’t good enough following the club’s dramatic 2-1 derby defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.
City appeared on course for victory until a late collapse saw Amad Diallo strike a 90th-minute winner, just moments after Bruno Fernandes had leveled from the penalty spot.
Softfootball understands the penalty was conceded by makeshift left-back Matheus Nunes, whose poor back-pass put Ederson in serious trouble.
Reflecting on an alarming run that now stands at eight defeats in eleven matches, Guardiola didn’t shy away from placing blame squarely on himself. He said:
I’m the boss, I’m the manager, I have to find solutions but I don’t find solutions. I’m not good enough, simple as that.
The Spaniard, who signed a new two-year contract in November, admitted the scale of the crisis has caught even him off guard. He added:
I knew it would be a tough season but I didn’t expect so hard. I’m completely convinced in what I’m saying, that I’m not good enough to find a way for them to feel peace in their bodies and their minds.
