Pep Guardiola has emerged as an ideal candidate to become the next Italy national team manager, with senior figures within the Italian Football Federation viewing the Spaniard as the perfect profile to lead the Azzurri into a new era.

The biggest obstacle to any potential appointment remains Guardiola’s salary, although high-ranking officials reportedly believe his experience, winning pedigree and tactical expertise would justify the financial investment.

The speculation comes after Softfootball earlier reported that Manchester City has officially appointed Enzo Maresca as Guardiola’s successor, marking the beginning of a new chapter at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers in football history, having enjoyed extraordinary success with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

While no agreement has been reached, his name has emerged as one of the most admired options as Italy assess their long-term managerial plans.
