Pep Guardiola has declared that Manchester City will be his final managerial post in club football, though he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of taking charge of a national team someday.
The Spaniard has won 15 major trophies since arriving at City back in 2016, and recently committed his future to the club by signing a contract extension running until 2027, despite previous interest from the England national team setup.
Softfootball understands Guardiola opened up about his long-term plans in an interview with celebrity chef Dani Garcia on YouTube. He said:
I’m not going to manage another team. I’m not talking about the long-term future, but what I’m not going to do is leave Manchester City, go to another country, and do the same thing as now.
Guardiola admitted the physical and mental toll of restarting a project elsewhere holds little appeal to him at this stage of his career. He added:
I wouldn’t have the energy. The thought of starting somewhere else, all the process of training and so on. No, no, no. Maybe a national team, but that’s different.
