Nigerian forward Akor Adams was in action as Montpellier suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Le Havre in Sunday’s Ligue 1 encounter, Softfootball reports.

Akor made his 10th league appearance of the season for Montpellier, taking his tally to three goals and one assist in the French top flight this campaign.

The Super Eagles striker started the match but struggled to make an impact against a disciplined Le Havre defence. He was substituted in the 60th minute, with Mousa Tamari coming on in his place as Montpellier searched for a way back into the contest.

The first half ended without a goal as both sides, who have struggled in front of goal this season, found it difficult to create meaningful scoring opportunities.

The deadlock was eventually broken after the interval when Le Havre were awarded a penalty. Abdoulaye Touré converted from the spot to score the only goal of the game and hand the hosts a vital victory.

Montpellier pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but failed to break down Le Havre’s resilient defence, leaving them empty-handed once again.

The win ended Le Havre’s miserable run of six consecutive league defeats and provided a significant boost to their survival hopes.

For Montpellier, however, the loss deepened their struggles as they remain rooted to the bottom of the Ligue 1 table. The club will be hoping to rediscover winning form quickly as they battle to climb out of the relegation zone.

Akor will also be eager to return to the scoresheet when Montpellier play their next league fixture, as the Nigerian looks to build on his promising start to the campaign despite the team’s difficult season.
