Eguavoen Celebrates Lookman, Troost Ekong’s CAF Award Nominations

Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen has congratulated Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong following their nominations for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled the shortlist for its annual awards on Thursday, with the Nigerian duo making the final 10-man list for the continent’s biggest individual honour. Softfootball understands that the nominations reflect another outstanding year for Nigerian football on the African stage.

Joining Lookman and Troost-Ekong on the shortlist are Amine Gouiri, Edmond Tapsoba, Simon Adingra, Chancel Mbemba, Serhou Guirassy, Achraf Hakimi, Soufiane Rahimi and Ronwen Williams.

Reigning African Footballer of the Year Victor Osimhen, who claimed the prestigious award in 2023, is not among this year’s nominees.

Reacting to the announcement, Eguavoen took to his official X account to celebrate the achievements of the Super Eagles stars and expressed hope that Nigeria would once again produce Africa’s best player.

The veteran coach praised Lookman and Troost-Ekong for their remarkable performances over the past year and urged them to complete a memorable year for Nigerian football by bringing the award back home.

The winners of the 2024 CAF Awards will be announced at a glamorous ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday, December 16.
